With a new Labour government prioritising business taxes, cost-of-living pressures persisting, inflation remains near the target at 2.3% all still while interest rates hold at 4.75%. Consumer spending reflects these economic headwinds: in November 2024, retail sales fell 3.3% year-on-year, with non-food sales particularly weak, both online and in-store.

Despite these pressures, UK shoppers continue to embrace online purchasing, with 43.4% shopping online monthly and 38.8% weekly. Price, delivery convenience and fast returns drive loyalty. Fashion remains the top sector, purchased by 52.6% of online shoppers, alongside groceries (53.6%). Other popular categories include beauty, books, and DIY supplies.
